While IRL this took fucking years to develop, in-game it doesn't make sense for it to have happened so quickly. Let's recount the events since we left them in the city:

Then we actually rescue them and being them home, which takes maybe another day? Then the gym fight and we fly back.
So about two weeks is enough to completely renovate the shithole, huh? I guess if Pokemon helped it would explain it.
Also their apparent pronoun is 'Mx.'
