>>47303993Having an electronic, digital Pokedex is a luxury that you only get through at least one of three privileges:
1. You're rich.
2. You got a perfect or above perfect score on your Pokemon Trainer's License Final Exam (you need a license according to the anime, & in Electirc Tale of Pikachu, Ash has a flashback to where he is in some large lecture hall, learning about Pokemon.
3. You are literally the next door neighbor of a Pokemon Professor.
If you don't meet any of these conditions, you have to either settle for a paperback Pokedex like pic related, or buy an older model on the internet. That's why so many NPCs are so impressed when they see that you have a Pokedex; it's the equivalent of driving a Ferrari when everyone else has a Ford Taurus or Honda Civic.
Same with having a starter Pokemon. Rarely do we ever see NPCs besides rivals have them.
>>47305639In the anime novelizations, Pokemon Centers give free hostel lodging, but only to Pokemon Trainers. I'm sure that Nurse Joy & the other staff regularly have trouble keeping out homeless people, squatters & junkies pretending to be Trainers. Also, if they existed IRL, the free beds & food would be awful, & the Centers would have long lines whenever you come in.
