XY and RS were the most important games of Masuda's career, and I hope that their additions come back in the next proper Pokemon game. Abilities, 2v2 Battles, seamless PvP, interacting with your Pokemon, etc.
BW and SM are good games, but they're mostly story focused JRPGs that don't understand what made Pokemon appealing as a premise.
SwSh was a mess, but it had some good new ideas like the Gym Challenge being a regional tournament, or the Wild area, overworld encounters, etc.
Old Sinnoh might just be bottom tier. Slow, clunky map, too many field moves, limited multiplayer...
