pawniard is a bit more contorted: steel is obviously all his weapons, dark is because you can usually sneak past enemies by turning off the light/he's used to the dark/he my have gone slightly dark for a while as of his silent hill 3's writings when he mentions contemplating strangling his own child, and finally he is quite literally a pawn throughout the whole game, being used by dahlia (there is a relatively famous fan-theory about this that explains it quite well)
you could also say he uses "dirty" weapons and that he's beating up psychic manifestations, too
