It's difficult, but not the tedious nor bullshit "difficult" that the romhack community seems to wank over i.e. not awful like radical red or the drayno shit is. Decent enough dex to make the region feel different and there are just enough little changes to make the whole thing enjoyable.
There's a few 'hoenn' variants of pokemon. Venonat and tentacool lines are top tier. The visual overhaul is nice and the character dialogue sprites are beautiful and the tiny bit of trainer customization is cool.
I'm able to use mons I actually like and am still scraping by. EV training is, while obviously helpful, not necessary and I've even done without having to hunt good natures. Though I would recommend doing so.
Overall it's one of the best romhacks I've played. Only change I dislike is they replaced the OG music with later gen stuff. Emerald has some of the best music of all the games, no idea why you would remove it. At least give us the ability to toggle it.
