Arrows are an interesting idea but I think color variation is the way to go if you are trying to denote proton and neutron. that stuff is ingrained in elementary school, might as well ride it.
As I said, prevo looks fine with a blank stare but might want to try something different on the second form.
But try some more stuff. Might end somewhere interesting.
