I wanted to use a team of new Pokemon only (I don't count Galarian forms so no Galarian Darmanitan), and most of it was built along the way. In fact Grapploct was a spur of the moment decision since I didn't know where to get Dreepy and I didn't feel like grinding up the Applin I had to respectable levels.
I've used Luca less and less as the game goes on simply because Corviknight/Centiskorch/Toxtricity handles 99% of everything, and the 1% that can't handle is handled by Queen Tajitu
