Literally the only people who bought Pokken were fighting game fans who also happen to be fans of Pokemon.
Another way to put it: Take the slowly-dwindling fighting game fanbase, then narrow that down to the people in that group who like more casual fighting games, like Smash, then narrow that down to people who like their fighting games to be different than the rest and are okay with learning an entirely new skillset that's totally incompatible with other fighting games, then take what's left after all that and slice off the minority who don't like Pokemon.
THAT minority is the people who bought Pokken: People who like Pokemon, like casual fighting games, are okay with learning everything from scratch, and are okay with the weird 2D/3D thing. All of the above. That niche of a niche.
Pretty much the only people who bought it outside of that niche was people who went "oh my god, a Pokemon fighting game???"
Fuck, I liked Pokken, I put a lot of hours into the original. Chandelure main here.
