I think it was a mistake for Game Freak ever to create a Pokemon that would be explicitly proclaimed the God of the Pokemon world. The reason I feel this way is because Pokemon has creatures from many countries, and mythologies. By making an explicit God Pokemon, they inadvertently invoked the particular holy aspects of certain cultures and religions while neglecting others. Another thing I dislike about Arceus is that it looks like a sinister creature. Prior to Gen 4, I think everyone assumed Mew was the origin of all Pokemon and while not exactly the God of the Pokemon world, it gave Mew a certain centralism in the lore and specialness. Mew as apposed to arceus was a benevolent looking creature and not much was really extrapolated on regarding it's nature. It wasn't even the most powerful pokemon. It was open ended. It's motives were open ended. It seemed really original that the originator in a mythology was not some all powerful, wrathful, elaborate being; but an unassuming, elusive, secretive creature that doesn't interfere or long to have it's presence and importance acknowledged.

Gen 2 has the best atmosphere
Gen 3 had the best attention to nature
Gen 1 and 2 had the best music; Gen 3 and 5 are honorable mentions
Gen 5 had great route designs
Gen 6 had excellent presentation and I'll say it-the evil team fits.

Nah dude they were bad. They went after what is the most important batch of Pokemon and did an ooooOK job at best. The typing are stupid (i.e. Dragon/Water), the designs are stupid (A penis megazord) that controls space. And then the fucking icing on the goddam cake for all the long time fans of the series.
