>>50790806Because Alain is the underdog. It is as you say, it's doubtful he's near champion level but his victory over Ash made him unpredictable. Plus he's the most interesting of the M8 because they're all goodies while he used to be a flare grunt.
We want to see the underdog win. Plus Alain takes battling way more serious than Ash, so it should be expected he makes progress faster than Ash.
