>>37534028What's a Pokemon adventure without the thrill of battle?
>>37537668The problem with Kanto was that it was a heavily urban setting, which Johto did little to change and had its own contained same-ness issues.
Hoenn on the other hand expanded to a whole island with biomes that felt natural next to one another on a larger scale. Something Sinnoh tried to follow, but was a stark difference of snow vs beach. It has a natural flow, but the icey north isn't as welcoming as you suggest, so it's harder to enjoy for some people. The main thing that was probably off putting is the snow/rain/fog effects that just made the game a bit tedious, so less people want to revisit the setting in art.
Unova isn't all that bad, but it's 100% fantasy and returns to an urban focus. The biomes aren't as natural and there's an artificial sense to it due to its originality. Not to say it doesn't still flow well, but not as well as the past two locations. Plus a lot of the best stuff comes post-game or is only really appreciated for one season of the 4-month cycle, so again, less art appreciation.
100% agree on Kalos and Alola. Not much to add there. Although Alola definitely fails to deliver biomes that feel natural. It's a messy collage that doesn't really work outside a game. At least Kalos tried.
