I suppose that's why people thought Leon would either be a tragic side character or a villain when he was first revealed months ago. He looked like the kind of guy who took too much pride in his Charizard and his champion title to the point of it being a detriment.
Although that would be too much to expect from Gamefreak. This game lacks pokemon, content, and even characters with more than 1 dimension.
