Talking about aromatisse got me thinking about ruka's pokemon and my reasoning for giving them to her. I feel like the fall into 3 main categories.
>Fits Ruka thematically as a gyaru
>Fits Ruka thematically as a weirdo
>A pokemon I personally like.
And to be honest I try to avoid that last category as much as possible.
>Jynx
Unique in that Ruka didn't influence Jynx but rather I had the idea for a gyaru Jynx first and bases Ruka off of that. I wanted a Jynx and gyaru duo so I decided that Ruka loved to dress up her pokemon and that she may have a weird taste in things. Since Jynx is already kinda disliked I decided to make Ruka the abrasive one and Jynx the more positive and nice type of gyaru. Basically the "gyaru with a heart of gold" trope popularized by stuff like Galko and "My dress up Darling"
>bellossom
It's kind of both a pokemon I really like and just very thematically appropriate for ruka. Oddish is a very decent early grass type. Gloom's reddish pebbles resemble dyed hair and her thick gooey lips resemble a girl with maybe too much lip gloss. And then bellossom resemble a the tropical flower patterns that are so ever present in gyaru fashion. The fact that there are gyaru specific dances makes it an all around great choice for her first pokemon. Consider her the "para para gyaru"
>Azumarill
I'll admit. I may have just added him on to ruka's team just cuz I really like azumarill. Like if you squint there's something there but if I was gonna get rid of any of ruka's pokemon for not fitting her theme it would be him. That said I love the idea of a brawly azunarill and he does fill a specific niche on her team. And I like the idea of Ruka having a pokemon with a rougher personality she has to change her training style for. Maybe hes the "aggressive Gyaru-o " trope but it's kind of a stretch.
