Click on Vertex > Merge Vertices > By Distance
and enter the lowest amount you can
(Sometimes unrelated vertices are too close and you have to do it in multiple batches, but this doesn't happen very often)

It got me at first but I eventually backed out of it because these models (and my PC lol) are simply not made for raytracing as dena's attempts have shown
