>>58627148Oh, that's a bit more involved than what I had originally thought of. You see, when everything is a gimmick, nothing is.
My original idea was for gym leader battles to be tests. Tests that prove the player indeed knows about Pokémon.
The first gym could be a basic type advantage test, second gym teaches you about attacks and special attacks, with your opponents having hefty defences. Third will make you learn switching, with the opponents specialising in volatile status conditions. Etc etc.
>I remember a game that made the E4 based on the pokemon colors and that was a breath of fresh air.We already have precedent of Pokémon itself doing something like this with Katy, who I consider one of the best-designed gym leaders. There are glimpses of brilliance through the early Pokémon games too. You just have to find them.
>About LuvdiscMy original idea was that whatever the warm temperatures of the world have made it so that Luvdisc mate constantly. Now you can find them EVERYWHERE with old rod. Likewise, if you are walking through grass near a puddle or water, there is a chance Luvdisc will spawn as well.
See what we did to make Luvdisc slightly more useable, without changing too much about this Pokémon?
You could even make a funny joke about this while also balancing the game: by making Magikarp much rarer, because Luvdisc has replaced it as the useless fish.
