When the entirety of the mid-Johto arc throws Gyms at you with level 30+ mons and the wild Pokemon are level 15, it's a pretty big fucking problem. Not to mention lack of VS Seeker to rematch trainers with. PokeGear Phone calls are the worst.
HGSS had a chance to fix the glaring issues presented in the originals. Perhaps bar off the area East of Ecruteak, forcing you to go West to Olivine, and then up the wild Pokemon levels at Lake of Rage and the route leading to it.
Why do none of the Gym Leaders utilize Johto mons? Falkner could at the least have a Hoothoot to accompany his Pidgey and Pidgeotto. Bugsy should have used Spinarak, Yanma and Scyther instead of two Gen 1 cocoon shitmons.
Whitney was a step forward, using Miltank. A Stantler included would have been nice. Morty fucks it all up because Misdreavus is the only Ghost in Gen 2 and it's not seen til Mt. Silver. Why didnt Chuck use a Hitmontop? Where was Skarmory for Jasmine? And loads of Gen 2 Pokemon aren't even seen til Kanto.
It's not to say HGSS and in turn, GSC, are bad. They're not. But people overlook glaring issues for no reason other than muh two regions.
