Everybody including Marriland seems to have forgotten that Shauna too says she wants to go in another region next time. GF may as well try something like Golden Sun 2, keeping the protagonist but permitting import of your clothes/pokemon or some other stuff from XY to the new game.
Anyway, I don't think we'll see new pokemon before at least October next year. It would be stupid from GF not to let the metagame develop before bringing changes to the series.
