An Ace trainer that lost the champion run to someone (similar to how Blue was defeated by Red). Maybe I wouldn't believe in the protagonist potential, which would lead to him/her trying to prove him/herself.
I would meet the protagonist at least four times through the story, battling him with an excuse to train freshly captured Pokémon, but secretly evaluating him/her. The first time should be after he/she gets his/her first badge. Team: Scraggy/Aron.
Second time would be when the protagonist reaches the fourth gym. Team would consist of five Pokémon of comparable level, including the Scraggy/Scrafty/Lairon/Aggron from before.
Third time would be a co-op meetup alike Lance's in GSC/HGSS, Aggron, Scrafty and a Noivern would be used as allies to the protagonist.
Fourth time would be just before the Victory Road. This time the sister uses her original team against the protagonist. Noivern, Nidoking, Clefable, Electivire, Houndoom, Empoleon (Mega - I can dream). This one would be her rematch team when you beat the game. Both Aggron and Scrafty would be given to the protagonist through short side-stories.
The protagonist will remind his/her sister of her glory days and teach her to dream about big things again and refresh her own thoughts.
