people thought pokemon was glitchy because missingno existed, and it was less of a "oh this game is broken" and more of "i have summoned an evil entity through an oddly specific set of steps and i am genuinely worried i have permanently damaged my pokemon game (which turned out to be a rumor gamefreak put out).
there's a huge difference between an autistic speedrunner data mining to find a glitch for a route and launching my game day 1 to have it chug frames constantly.
