Back in 99 the prices were insane yeah and I was only in 7th grade so there was no chance of having any of the Corocoro cards unless your parents were crazy rich or you got a lucky trade. Honestly, I think the scarcity of them fueled my interest in them even more. The prices are alright now though, you'd likely spend more money collecting English cards.
I have that same feeling about them just looking "right". Some of the older cards are printed much darker than their translated counterparts and they look so much better for it. Having ones that haven't been released in English is the best, people are always wowed by what I've got when I go to local tournaments.
