I'm not really sure. I have no problem with the anime staying as it is as I don't watch it that much and its main purpose is a vehicle to drive kids towards buying the games. Ash being more mature'd be a start and less obnoxious, at least dubbed, companion than Iris (the "kid" thing grated real quick) I don't really mind.
What I'd prefer is more one-off or short series alt. anime that can experiment and take different tones like Pokemon Chronicles. Pokemon Origins is a good start. Always had a glimmer of hope they'd develop the B2/W2 anime trailers into a one-off too.
