I have to admit a lot of pokemon suffer, but the split, combined with loads of new moves, makes the games far too easy.
Now instead of Hitmonchan being limited by the physical types, you can slap on any elemental move and it works against hundreds more pokemon.
Basically it means you don't have to worry as much about party composition, because each individual pokemon has a lot more coverage. A mixed sweeper can now do everything you need.
A solution to this might be cutting down on the variety of moves pokemon can use, but that would definitely piss people off.
I'm not talking about competetive by the way, just general play.
