When it comes down to it, you spent $40 for a brat's game with a sillified story and you just want to go super Sonic gotta-go fast through it, and because you can't you're mad. After you've spent a GRUELING, what, 1-2 hours total watching these extra cutscenes (if that), the game comes down to the Pokemon in it.
And they're fucking dumb.
It offers no new challenge to the game, like a typeless Pokemon you can't be super effective against, no new Pokemon with a bit more complicated type combination to consider, or the ability to switch types on the fly, nothing at all to challenge the overly complicated rock-paper-scissors game that Pokemon has remained as since Red and Green.
