I like the idea of a funny looking cute seal that's a part of a circus, qualified to practice tricks and juggling, which that lead me to believe he/she would evolve to an another type of pinniped or even a clown.
And boy, was I extremely disappointed after more stages of its evolution were revealed. It's like I was witnessing a little boy suffering problems of gender identify, and was slowly convincing himself he's a girl in reality the older he was getting. It's like how a Pokémon would look like if it knew the culture of transgenderism.
To this day, I fail to see how can Popplio be a mermaid in the final evolution. It's practically nonsense.
