They probably do.
"Dig!"
"Froaaaaaaaaak!"
"Rain Dance."
"Heeeeeliop!"
For once, you make a good call. You order Froakie to use Dig, assuming that the lizard is going to make use of one of his three wacky weather-related abilities.
Assuming from Miss' command, it's Dry Skin. For newfags or people who have been neck-deep in the metagame and still don't know, Water heals him, but Fire roasts and toasts his skin. In rain, he gets surrogate Leftovers, and in intense sunlight, he just sort of fries at the end of each turn.
>It started to rain!>Helioptile's Dry Skin!>Helioptile restored some of its health using the rain!Wow.
That ability alone cripples half of your strategy. Yikes.
"Protect, go!"
"Froaaaaaaaaaaaak!"
Miss calls for a Protect just as Froakie emerges from the ground, protecting him from any damage and giving him another free turn to restore some more HP lost from Sacred Sword. But a rainy Leftovers isn't enough to get him back in shape. No, no. Helioptile wants more.
His death barrage begins now.
