I miss the time when Ash was a loser. We mocked and got angry at him and the writers, but I feel now there was a charm in seeing a protagonist always striving for a goal despite all his failures, despite his limitations and getting outmatched by impossible challenges. The fact he was still admirable as a person while not the best pokémon trainer of all, at least not the way he was expected to be, made him more special.
