The original series is only good for nostalgia. The story is lacking and the characters are boring. I wouldn't suggest watching the whole series, but the last ten episodes are alright.
GX is pretty fucking gay season one, but gets better in season two, with season three being a clusterfuck of edginess; darkness, murder, sadism, etc.
5D's is the most mature, being about poor adults living in the slums of future Japan where only the rich can duel. On motorcycles (kinda like Code Geass, but less robots and more card games).
Zexal is the most underrated. I highly suggest watching it. It's a lot like how Unova is to Pokemon, being an allegory (reboot) of the original that's just different enough to be amazing. Season one is absolutely awful, but after the major tournament Zexal II starts, and it's absolutely divine; top anime in my opinion.
