Not all Pokémon can be nor should be amazing creative strokes of genius. The franchise has always had and needed mundane, simple and arguably boring Pokémon and that’s what makes the world more interesting and full.

And that’s okay too. Some plants and animals in real life are pretty fucking dull looking too compared to more universally popular and beloved animals. There’s a reason people will pay money to see a tiger but put out poison and literally hire people to kill rodents.
tl;dr: not every Pokémon needs to be the coolest Pokémon. It’s okay to have a Dewgong or a Flamigo
