so I recently started collecting Pokemon cards because I went on a trip down nostalgia lane, rewatching Indigo League/Orange Islands. I really like a lot of the S&V sets so I’ve mostly been collecting those. I even started watching the German dub of Pokemon Horizons because I’m studying it as 2nd language, and I didn’t think I’d like it but it was surprisingly actually alright
I thought I’d actually try the game for once, because I only ever collected in the past, and figured it might be worth trying and seeing if it’s actually fun. I searched for a LGS that seemed at least somewhat cool and not super corporate or ran by weird hardcore christians or whatever, and found a decent place ran by chill Mongolian looking dudes. I asked the guy who worked there if they do Pokemon stuff. They mostly do it during the week (only Thursdays) -- unfortunately not on weekends -- and it sounded like a bit of a younger age group, maybe a mixed bag. It’s probably not the best place for me to get started, so I was wondering how you guys approached finding places to play in-person games when first starting out. Did you just bring friends to play on weekends, did you do official events, did you learn on the Live PC game first, did you focus mainly on going to higher traffic bigger/corporate gaming stores, etc.? I’m not really familiar with the Pokemon TCG landscape as far as in-person pick-up games goes, or if it’s even worth getting into beyond collecting, and/or beyond mainly sticking with the online PC version of the game (I'm in Milwaukee btw if that matters. There are a decent amount of stores)
