I'll be honest and say that I used to know practically fuckshit about Smogon in general, but after a few competitive endeavors and debating among other folks here, this is the conclusion I drew that pretty much sums up the feelings on both sides (for me at least):
Smogon lays out the reality of competitive battling -- literally OU + Strategy is the end point of it all (not necessarily always, but you get the idea). Of course, it depends on what the mutual understanding is between the two players before they battle, if they're going off of Smogon standards (OU, UU, etc). The sad part of it is what "Karenfags" sob over. There's nothing wrong with sobbing over this -- even I feel fucked over by this; it sucks that we can't be "infinite" with our battle strategies since there are standards and tiers as to what's appropriate for battle and such. Unfortunately, Karanfags know nothing about Smogon and just assume everyone is out to ruin their creative and fun experience with Pokemon. Nobody is fucking forcing you to abide with Smogon. Smogon is just trying to help -- it's a supplement, if anything. You can still do whatever the fuck you want. I swear, I feel like every Karanfag acts this way, like it's everyone and their mama apocalyptic bullshit, sit your faggot ass down and just play. Some of us are a little bit more passionate, sentimentally, which may come off as pretentious, but it's whatever -- you play how you like, and that's that. There's no answer to this conflict. It's a conflict that is rooted by misunderstanding and utter fucking negligence.
