I'm pretty sure the implication is that the Raidon only loves sandwiches so much because Arven fed them to him when he was forced(?) to take care of it in the lighthouse lab many years ago. Because we, the player, never utter the word "sandwich", yet it pops out of it's ball when Arven mentions it the first time. Which means it already knew the word and what it meant
