Pokemon have four attacks like normal, each bound to an A/B/X/Y button. The attacks are modular and look/act similarly across different Pokemon. Some moves may be channeled and require aim in exchange for being more powerful (e.g. beam based attacks) while others can have AOE but are weaker (e.g. Earthquake). Stat boosting moves can have drawbacks such as requiring the Pokemon to stand still while it casts or having the stat boost wear off after some number of time. Switching can be done by having each Pokemon in your party mapped to a shoulder or d-pad button, but once the Pokemon is sent out there is a delay before it can move and it's vulnerable to attack.
Pokemon can move around the field on the trainer's command with 360 degree movement. The higher the Pokemon's speed stat, the faster it can move. Pokemon with higher def take less damage from physical attacks, which are usually close range. Pokemon with higher spdef take less damage from special attacks, which are usually far range. Physical attacks can sometimes let a Pokemon "leap" to a location right before dealing a blow to prevent Pokemon that are too fast from constantly being able to dodge or zone the other Pokemon out. Larger Pokemon are easier to hit but are balanced to have higher stats. Smaller Pokemon are harder to hit but are balanced to have lower stats.
