However, Pokémon isn't a world of pure logic, and thus, magic and other metrics can be used to influence or even alter that logic. I don't know if the "despise for powers of friendship" is purely Alex's opinion, or if it's yours as well, and while normally I kinda share that opinion, in Pokémon I very much oppose it, so strength acquired through a strong bond (and training) can overcome inherent strength (not enough to overcome Legendaries thoever), so even someone with what you would call a "shitmon" for partner can overcome any non-Legendary encounter with a strong enough bond.
Anyways, to each their own and all that.
