Gimmickfags act like that doesn't matter but it absolutely does. Z-Moves and Dynamax buff everything equally which doesn't bring balance. Megas can be tweaked over time by virtue of not being a gimmick which means any one complaint you have with a mega that's overcentralizing can easily be addressed without tossing out the good the mechanic brings.
