5 was fun for me. I like the pixel art. The starters weren't that well designed but I kinda liked Snivy. A lot of unique designs and the seasonal mechanic was pretty dope. Wish other games had it.
The story was compelling enough, nothing amazing really but N was more thought out than the ecoterrorist nuts, Giovanni and his fanboys or stoic loser with god delusions.
The weather wars were also fun, the power creep killed a lot of old favorites but it made others actually viable.
I dunno, 5 was pretty great, probably my fav gen besides 3.
I guess mines is: 5=3>2=4>7>6>1
One being too basic to standout.
