That said, USUMs marketing was a huge lie and helped me decide to never buy a new Pokemon game again. Way too anti-consumer, fuck Gamefreak.
There's a lot of good shit in BW2 but there's tons of stuff that brings it down. So many parts being reliant on now-defunct wifi make it feel really halfassed to play now. The entra-link plopped right in the middle of Unova makes the region map ughly as fuck. So much wasted space. And the gen 5 mons are super hit and miss. You have really fucking cool and unique designs like Golurk and Hydreigon but then you have absolute shit like the musketeer trio and Sawk/Throh. I can see why it was so divisive.
Pokemon would greatly benefit from a more mature tone like Colusseum. Sketchy places like The Under were really cool and the characters really stood out for it. I'm not saying they gotta go full edge like the comics but c'mon, don't act like this kiddie shit doesn't wear thin quick as fuck. Even gen 1 and 2 had a few darkish moments. I mean, "Baddy Bad"? Really? This is the extent of a 20 year old series? We all know there's so much more there.
