that's bullshit, the fact that a Pokemon is bad competitively is not enough reason to say it is useless and shitty, and that brings me to the point you made of it being bad in game, which it isn't since a lot of water, rock and earth trainers appear in between gyms you can't just train pokemon for them. I learnt that the bad way when i was playing 4th gen and got my ass kicked by random trainers sending pokemon I have no counter against
all in all, it narrows down to opinion, and mine is that chikorita is great and not weak at all, just how you use it
