Okay so here we go:
So there's these three legendaries called the Loyal Three. The story that the people in Kitakami believed was that the Loyal Three came to the island to protect the people from an evil, masked ogre. They fell in the battle, but the ogre retreated. So they were revered as heroes who sacrificed themselves to protect the village, and were buried underneath a shrine.
The truth of the story was something else entirely however, and was only known by Kieran and Carmine's family. Just watch this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySVmCXJyIgUHowever, there is another additional layer to this story that is very well hidden. First of all, the Loyal Three all have lore how they used to wish for something (wisdom, power and beauty respectively) and got their wish granted by the toxic chain around their necks.
Through datamining we found out that there's a whole image for a fourth entity within the video I posted above. In the files it's named "Dokutaro", probably named after Momotaro, "Peach boy", the Japanese folklore story the DLC was based on (but with the hero and villain roles reversed). It looks like the ends of the poison chains the loyal threee are wearing. Plus, there's an old, faded doll that looks like Dokutaro at the Kitakami shop which is called "Peachy's". It appears that it's some sort of forgotten part of the story about the Loyal Three and Ogerpon, but it definitely has to do something with poison and bestowing the Loyal Three with power.
Anyway, this whole shit loops back to Kieran and his mindbreak arc. The moment in question is when he punched the pillar in rage. He's obsessed with Ogerpon and is fucking mad the she liked the MC more than him. After he punched the pillar of the shrine, the Loyal Three came back to life.
Do you now see how the poison colored cloud is extremely relevant to all of this?
