>>51222061>>51222081These days people want to be able to rush through all the content NOW NOW NOW and it's such a shame that we're basically not allowed to have games like GSC anymore. Everything's got a 10-20 minute day/night cycle, not just as default but as the only way to play, no option for real time clock. A lot of modern games are really falling short of their potential because of this.
There's definitely cases for it like young kids who's parents limit their play time, or adults with busy schedules who only have time to sit down and really get into a game at certain hours on certain days. However there's ways to design around that without eliminating the immersion of having time affect the game or having to rush everything. GSC did it wonderfully:
>events repeat daily/weekly, if you miss it you won't have to wait long for another shot>6+ hour morning/day/night windows, events trigger any time during the correct window(s) on the correct day(s)>time-gated events are all quick things, if it's not when you normally play you only need to find a few minutes>none of the time specific stuff is necessary for progression>random events like rematch calls to break up the rigid scheduling
