It's always been funny to me how involved Oak is now with Ash's journey.
In the original series he literally couldn't care less and thought he was hopeless, it was implied he was more preoccupied with the three kids he'd sent out before him.
But now he just hangs out with Ash's mom all the time and has no issues keeping all of his Pokemon in his lab as if Ash was personally hand picked by him to represent Pallet Town.
