If you see every Pokemon in the National Dex you get the Oval Charm, which ups the chances of having eggs in the Daycare.
But, if you complete the National Dex (capture every Pokemon) then you get the Shiny Charm, which ups the chances of running into a Shiny Pokemon three times.

It also lets you know when you've seen and caught every Pokemon in that area. Very helpful for collecting them all.
Did you not like it because of the Pokemon or other reasons? Black 2/White 2 let you get a lot more Pokemon than before, which I liked a lot. Being restricted to only Unova Pokemon was kind of boring after the first time through.
