Defenses ignored, the Meowstic faints without much of a fight, she was clearly the fodder of the group if the marionette's lack of worry is anything to go by.
Unlike other Pokemon battles, Hexcalibur isn't given time to rest. There is no recalling, no pause period, no definitive wait time as the opponent gets their next mon, no, this is practically a boss rush as far as the grand puppeteer is concerned. Just as easy as Meowstic goes down, her body is left to lie unconsciously, while the next enemy literally rises out of the ground, right behind Hexcalibur.

Even a mighty paladin like Hexcalibur can be taken off-guard every now and then. The unfair Air Slash spam causes an explosion that knocks him back. He flinches from at least one of the super-effective slashes, leaving him to focus on swiftly dodging the next barrage that follows.
