there's some heavy mental gymnastics involved in accepting a fox could be considered anything similar to a dog (yes I know they're both canids, no it doesn't matter because they're both well-known enough animals to have an identity of their own in popular culture, same for japanese and chinese culture and mythology where foxes and dogs are differentiated)
