Video games, the show, movies, toys, board games, cards, tv commercials, cereal, soup, school supplies, anything that you can imagine had Pikachu's face in the late 90's. Some kids didn't care much about gen 2 and when gen 3 came out, most kids that grew up with the games/show decided that Pokémon wasn't cool anymore and it stayed like that until Go came out. It was cool to have been there from the beginning, but it's also very sad to see how shitty the franchise is today.
