C'mon guys, you're making this harder than it is..
Think of it this way: You're going in for Pokemon reasons that the staff is already aware of. They are ready to just hand you a code, or simply say they've run out.. They'll turn around and forget all about you, as you should them.
There are people much worse than you who ask fucking awkward questions or act painfully cringeworthy as they try to talk about a game they enjoy and/or are there looking for to the employees.. You're much needed relief for them. You aren't there to cause them any grief, simply asking for a little card with a code.
And if there's stress about a bunch of strangers standing around playing their 3DS's, then so what? Once you leave, you'll never see or hear from them again. So fuck them.
I've got moderate social anxiety, but it helps to think of things this way when I'm out and about and must quest for things, myself.
