After the Elite 4, the player hears a rumor that a small tribe has been kicked out of thier town by a group of bandits. Upon further investigation the player find that Ricardo has converted the town into a sort of battle frontier run by him and his (possible fanboyish) followers.
How about something like this: Protag's father is a famous trainer, once a champion in days gone by. He is developing a battle frontier area in the forest where an old tribe lives/lived. Ricardo is a member of this tribe and resents the protag's father for developing the traditional site, even though it was done with all the right compensation and agreements made to the tribe. The majority of the tribe has no problem with the development as it brings in money for the locals and they haven't touched any of the sacred sites (location of pixies?). Ricardo after accepting the bounty finds out more about you and who your father is. This makes him channel his anger towards you in place of your father, to look for revenge for the wrongs that he feels were done to his tribe.
