Next main series Pokemon game will be 100% Wild Area open world. It's obvious this is the direction Game Freak want to take the series. They wanted to do it with SwSh but didn't have the know-how yet. Then, SwSh DLC was 100% wild areas, which revealed their intent.
Legends is also a tech demo for this as it will be the first completely open world Pokemon game. Future main series games will not have any routes or segmented areas, they will just be one continuously flowing world.
