Appraisals were a massive quality of life improvement.
No more running out of storage while outside and having to go home to check IVs because you're going to waste just as much battery time standing there trying to do it in the phone browser (because vanilla Google Sheets kept crashing on your phone when it tried to open the massive spreadsheet) when the only IV checking app at the time was the one that inserted itself in-between the game and the servers that got flagged as a cheat app early on.
And honestly, I don't see the point of the screenshotting IV checker if it's going to be no better than doing it by hand and appraisals alone help you filter and throw out 99% of the shitmons on the spot immediately after catching. The only people who might give a shit about IV checkers are lazy PoGo+ owners who never ever check their catches until they run out of storage and then whine about how they don't like doing appraisals and checking IVs.
