I have literally only played gen 3 even if I was around and very invested in the franchise since its beginning. Mostly because I could never secure a PC during computer lab because my classmates were little greedy shits that would hog up the PCs where you could play pokemon even when they had the games both on the gameboy and their own PCs.
On a related note, I think normal people using the term franchise shows how far we're up in the corporatist game but I know just saying series wouldn't be as descriptive.
Last year I started a nuzlocke on a DS I borrowed from a friend and I still haven't finished it because my aces and bros kept being killed by random trainers and I couldn't deal with it. I still haven't given the DS back.
I wish I could catch up and play the games I never played but I feel like Pokemon is too big of a timesink and rarely rewarding. Maybe that was just a remainder from that time I attempted to make thematic pokemon runs on each gen3 game based on my OCs but got bored of it because it was too much fucking work and boring as fuck since I have a lot of fun when I'm just picking up pokemon on the march and relying on them. I'm sure I have the money to buy a 3DS and the games.
Fairy type felt like something I was owned from a long time ago.
I think I have a crush on Mareanie.
