I liked the higher difficulty, as well as the limited selection of johto mons that you probably would otherwise pass up on, thereby learning to appreciate them more. And of course, actually focusing on double battles rather than having them be an occasional in-game gimmick meant that it was actually worthwhile to build your team around doubles strategies. Also, best music in the series.
All that said, it could get grindy at times, especially with how bullshit the process for purifying shadow pokemon is.
